Yes another Lawn Tractor… so there !
Here’s a photo of a very nice one from a Swedish Auction. You know when I show you this photo first that the one I just bought looks a bit different. I can’t afford ,or find one that nice. SOOO…. I got to make it..
I warned you ! But lets look at the facts here.. It’s 26 years old, It’s had a rough life ..left outside. Plastics are sun baked. However it runs and cuts grass.. because that’s all the fella cared about.. So the deck was rebuilt , new bearings. The steering cables ( that’s what articulates the body) are new. The tires are ok and holding air. That’s all the good, he left me a long list of stuff needing to be fixed. Dave and I drove six hours to Surrey for this gem. Was it worth it ? Hell yes.. These riders hold there value and folks love them.
Loaded up and tied down for the long drive home. When I got home the big pin that locks the deck in place was missing.. I see in this photo that it is gone too. Easy to make or find a new one …or even a bolt. And I did… So even with a list of stuff to fix, I would like to cut grass with it and see if I need to add to the list. So I gave it a bath…
The underside of the deck is very nice…the blades not so much.. But I’ll just sharpen them .. This is a 40″ cut deck and those blades should be 14 inch. New ones for sure at some point. Check out how clean the hydro drive is now.
I don’t see the need to tell you which one is the “before” photo. If there’s a leak I’ll find it now. And yes another fan that needs blades, All of them ! Here’s a intro video that shows more….
But for now like I said We need to cut some grass and see what else goes wrong. One thing that seams have fixed itself is the cutting height lever. You know the one with ten…I mean nine settings.
I pulled those wires off and sprayed some lube in where the spring is and now it works ! This makes me question some of the other repairs ? Here I thought something was broken or missing and that I would have to take it all apart… Lucky me. Still a little sticky, But mostly you leave it on the setting you use. I ran the motor today and went for a little drive. The motor is not running great,and I suspect a good carb cleaning is needed.
So I’m known to get all enthusiastic and jump the gun at times.
I really need to finish the Kabota before this project.. But I could not resist wanting to paint some of these faded / sun baked plastic parts. I started with the cover for the hydro drive and rear axle. I sanded the oxidization ,and cleaned really good..
Not bad ! Dying to try something orange.. Today I removed the right side foot well to see about the foot pedal problem.. So let’s see what I can do with this mess..
That’s faded bad ! If the oxidization wasn’t so bad , the wet sanding would have brought the orange back. However I have paint…
Slight difference.. And some rubber mat for your feet. I really should leave the R16 be for now and work on the other projects. But I want to finish with this last photo…
And we will leave it at that.. When I return to the R16 I’ll start a new page.. Oh hell let’s just go there…
